BrahMos 2 Cruise Missile

BrahMos 2

BrahMos II is a stealth hypersonic cruise missile currently under development. It can fly at Mach 7 and has a range of 290 Km. This missile is the next generation of the BrahMos Supersonic Cruise missile a JV of India & Russia.
The range of the missile is limited owing to the Russian Signatory of the MTCR. The BrahMos II land variant design has been completed and 4 Land to Land test variants are ready to be tested. Rest of the variants will be tested in the successive years of 2012-13, the missile will arm the Project 15B destroyers of the Indian Navy. In Russian navy project 21956 Destroyers are most likely to be equipped with BrahMos II.
Also the future designs may include the option of missile delivering the warhead and returning to base, as suggested by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
The BrahMos will have a excellent accuracy of 10m or less. The stealth technology combined with the incredible low flying ability will make the missile hard to detect. The kinetic energy of the missile is projected to be 36 times that of any existing cruise missile system and can also be used for Anti-ship warfare. The AmericaX-15A Waverider is reported to be the only other hypersonic cruise missile program.
The BrahMos will ably support the missile offensive of India. It will add to the BrahMos 1 and the under testing Nirbhay Subsonic cruise missile with a range of over 700 Km.The BrahMos II will have a Scramjet engine.
Unlike the Ramjets, the Scramjets allows the combustion to occur in a supersonic airflow expanding its operating range above Mach 4.
The missile is expected to enter service by 2015-2017 and may well be integrated on fighters like the SU-30MKI, FGFA and PAK-FA which would make it more destructive.
As of now the missile is in an initial testing phase.
